New Year Greetings from VJU Rectors to all Students
On the occasion of the Year of the Rabbit 2023, on behalf of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Japan University, I would like to send my best wishes to all students studying at the university. I wish you and your family a new year full of health, joy, happiness and success.
Among 400 students of Vietnam Japan University this year, some of you are international students who might have experienced or have had the opportunity to learn about the Vietnamese people and the traditional Tet of Vietnam, I hope you have had a joyful and meaningful holiday.
In 2022, after 2 years of dealing with many difficulties and impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, it can be said that VJU has returned to normal operations. In the past year, we were again able to bring our Master programs’ students, especially those of the 6th intake, to Japan for internship. The internship program is one of the advantages and unique features of VJU that many students aim for and want to experience.
Up to 2023, VJU has had 3 undergraduate courses, bringing the total number of students to 304; 7 master courses including 96 students of the 6th and the 7th intakes. Whether you are a new student or an old student, I know that in the last school year and semester, you have put all your efforts in studying, researching and practicing. Being the university’s rector, I hope that following Term I, Term II (starting from today) will be a semester that benefits you more. We will make every effort to provide the best learning and research conditions for you.
On January 10, 2023, VJU teachers and students had the honor to welcome former Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Yoshihide Suga, to visit our My Dinh campus for the second time. Mr. Suga’s first visit came right after he became the Prime Minister of Japan in 2020. This is a strong testament to the close attention of the governments and senior leaders of the two countries, especially Japan, to best support and promote the development of Vietnam Japan University. I believe in the two governments of Vietnam and Japan. I hope that the students of Vietnam Japan University also believe in us, believe in the choice and the path you are on to always strive and do your best.
Dear fellow students,
You are the precious assets, the jewels of VJU. “The more you practice, the better”. In 2023, I wish you all to continue having success in your study and scientific research; I wish that many students will gain scholarships and be able to participate in internships and study exchanges in Japan.
I also wish and hope that you will strive to shine as brightly as possible in your own way, constantly improve your self-worth as well as contribute to the improvement of VJU’s value and reputation.
Sincerely yours,
Furuta Motoo
The Rectorate Board gave lucky money and took pictures with students
After Rector Futura’s New Year’s greeting speech, the Rectorate Board gave lucky money to all available students. The Rectorate Board then spent most of their time providing information, listening and giving detailed answers to almost 20 questions raised by the students before as well as right at the dialogue session. The main topics of interest to the students include outcome standards for foreign language, learning pathway, balance between compulsory and optional subjects, internship opportunities, extra-curricular activities, sports fields, more canteens, etc.

“First of all, it must be affirmed that VJU aims to train high-quality human resources. Not any institution can turn you into talented people but only you yourself. We do not force you to learn, also cannot force you to become talented but you. What VJU can do for you is to try to provide an environment and a team of lecturers; provide support, manage and recognize your progress. Uuniversity level requires you to be active in the learning process. As Mr. Furuta just said, each of you will develop in a different way. VJU does not provide or create a series of training products of 400 identical people. If so, you will not have a competitive advantage and therefore, each of you must make efforts”, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Oanh, Vice Rector of VJU emphasized.

“Regarding the balance between electives and compulsory units, recently, ChatGPT has been widely discussed. Chat GPT only helps you to do the work but does not help you to understand the lesson. It is only the beginning, not the end. Take advantage of such tools to improve your knowledge. All tools cannot replace your own knowledge. In my opinion, if I could go back, I would try to study as broadly as possible. However, “broad” here is to understand, not to cram knowledge or try to remember. You need to understand its meaning in order to apply it. By all means, the balance between deep learning in one area and wide learning in some areas is up to you, but learning broadly must also be to the point where you can understand some basic concepts so that you can move on later.” Dr. Nguyen Hoang Oanh added.
