During the lecture, the President gave exciting statistics on Japan’s economy, politics, security and investment after the cold war, and highlighted the impressive achievements of Official Development Assistance (ODA) of Japan in Vietnam and future prospects. Exhilaration was in the air as the President emphasized the role of Vietnam Japan University in training and developing the next high-quality human resources to become the next generation of leaders, managers and experts in Vietnam, Japan, Southeast Asia and the world.
The Q&A session that followed was invigorated with insightful questions from the students, to which Dr. Tanaka patiently responded. He was later seen chatting with four students who are studying a Master’s program at the university. Their private conversations covered a range of stimulating topics such as the experiences Vietnam has learned from Japan in economic development and the role of education in solving global problems. Through these questions, Dr. Tanaka once again emphasized the importance of education in raising global awareness of the sustainable development goals.

Since 2018, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has cooperated with Japanese universities to implement the “Research and Development Program (JICA – DSP)” to develop human resources for future leaders in developing countries.
Within the framework of this program, JICA has been implementing the “JICA Chair” program since 2020, which is a program to support the establishment of courses on Japanese Studies in order to expand the opportunities for learning and development experience of Japan for many developing countries. These courses are offered at top universities in the host countries.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam, Dr. Tanaka Akihiko – President of JICA, delivered a spellbinding special lecture at Vietnam Japan University (VJU) on March 7, 2023.
