On November 8, 2020, one US’s journal – PLoS Biology announced a list of 100,000 world top scientists whose works are of great influence in 2020. Prof.DrSc. Nguyen Dinh Duc – MIE’s Director, one of the three top Vietnamese scientists is named on the list.
The list is selected and published by the Metrics team (by Jeroen Baas et al). Accordingly, the list is collected from Scopus database from 1960 to 2019 of around 7 million scientists in which top 100,000 most influential ones are filtered. The final result, updated to the the end of 2019 is published in “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” by Jeroen Baas et al..
Six criteria have been considered such as total number of citations; Hirsch index h-index; the Schreiber hm-index; single author citations; the only or first author citations, the only, first, or last author citations.
Selected scientists are categorized in 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields (majors).
In total, 22 Vietnamese scientists are named in the list and Prof.Nguyen Dinh Duc – MIE’s Director is first ranking in Viet Nam (ranking 5798 in the world), followed by Prof.Nguyen Xuan Hung (ranking 6996 in the world) and Prof.Le Hoang Son (ranking 9261 in the world).
This is a pride for Viet Nam and Vietnamese scientists as well, when their work are recognized in the international scientific community. It is also the innitial fruit of fundamental and comprehensive renovation in higher education in Vietnam in recent years.
