On April 11, 2017, the Vietnam Japan University, VNU-HN held a signing ceremony of cooperation between the University and the Institute for Building Science and Technology (IBST) – Ministry of Construction. This marked an important milestone, contributing to deepen cooperation between VJU and IBST – Ministry of Construction in particular, and at the same time opening up many opportunities for VJU’s cooperation with other leading agencies in Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony, from VJU, there were the presence of Rector Prof. Dr. Furuta Motoo, Standing Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Vu Anh Dung, Vice Rector Dr. Nguyen Hoang Oanh, and Chief Advisor of VJU Project Kohiyama Satoru. From IBST – Ministry of Construction, there were the presence of General Director Dr. Nguyen Dai Minh, Deputy General Director Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai, Director of the Institute of Building Structures (IBS) Dr. Le Minh Long, along with representatives of departments and offices of the two organizations and JICA experts at VJU.

Upon the agreement, the two parties pledged to cooperate mainly in the field of infrastructure engineering, with activities, programs and projects on training, scientific research and technology transfer for the development of the country’s education, and science and technology in general, and for training activities, human resource development and scientific and technological research of the two parties in particular.

Specifically, lecturers of VJU will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge, experience and information on the most advanced science and technology with seasoned experts of IBST – Ministry of Construction. Meanwhile, students will have opportunities to practice lab experiments, conduct internships as well as being employed at the Institute. On the side of IBST, the Institute seeks and implements programs and projects related to science and technology, coordinates to organize scientific seminars, conferences and exchanges with universities and international organizations to promote cooperation, images and brands of the two parties.

Pleased with the agreement reached between the two parties, Rector Furuta Motoo also hoped that in the near future, the scope of cooperation between the two parties would be expanded further into technical and technology programs at VJU in general, proceeding to set up joint Programs and Research Projects, or furthermore, to set up Laboratories and Research Centers of IBST at VJU.

The cooperation with IBST – Ministry of Construction in particular and the prospect of cooperation with other leading agencies in Vietnam in the future present opportunities to help students of VJU gain access not only to advanced science but also real-life situation of the industry in Vietnam, meeting the practical needs of the society.

IBST, a unit under the Ministry of Construction, was established in 1963 and is the leading research and consultancy agency of the Construction Industry in Vietnam. The Institute is headquartered in Hanoi, with Sub-Institute in HCMC, Hue, Can Tho and Binh Duong. The main functions of the Institute include conducting scientific research, development, transfer and application of advanced technologies in construction; providing Doctorate training in business and implementation of services in the field of construction.
