Speech by H.E Mr. Tsutomu Takebe at the 2018-2019 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Vietnam-Japan University:
The 2018-2019 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Vietnam-Japan University
“First and foremost, I would like to thank Mr. To Huy Rua. As you know, since the 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, the two countries’ parliamentary coalition have come up with the idea to carry out a project demonstrating the long-term friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
Vietnam-Japan University was established based on this idea.
Again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. To Huy Rua.
Ladies and gentlemen, it can be said that all of you here at the ceremony today have made great efforts to build the Vietnam-Japan University. I express my respect and gratitude for all that efforts. I congratulate 96 Trainees of the 3rd Class. Congratulations to all of you today. I hope that each of you will continue follow your dream for further thriving in the future.
I was born in Hokkaido, which is experiencing an unprecedented earthquake. This morning, when meeting with Vietnamese students, I received the encouragement and sharing of Vietnamese students make me very moved.
Yesterday, my daughter sent me an email saying that all the houses in Hokkaido were destroyed, massive blackout is happening and everyone was living in the dark. “Daddy is in a place with full of light and I’m jealous of you.”
Magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Hokkaido is beyond all of Japanese’s imagination. Therefore, no one can anticipate which else can happen in the future. This is not the time for us to apologize for the disaster, this is the time for all of us to take action for the world changes. I have a great expectation of VJU Intake 3 and VJU students in general for taking this duty.”
Our world is becoming flat and it is said to be the time of Asia. Asia has many different ethnic groups, cultures, religions, different energies. How to make the best of it?
Can the young generation of Vietnam make it? I feel the energy in you when meeting you. I think now Vietnam and Japan should work together to create a new energy source for the Vietnam-Japan University to create excellent human resources for Vietnam and the world.
This year’s Opening Ceremony is celebrated on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. Last year, the emperor of Japan visited Vietnam and met VJU students. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has recently come to Vietnam and Vietnam-Japan University. In addition, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and met students of the university and I proudly had the opportunity to participate in this event.
The two governments have always regarded Vietnam-Japan University as a national project.
Prior to the opening ceremony, I had a talk with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Prime Minister said that the university is a “lighthouse” for the world in the 21st century. The university is not only a bridge between Vietnam and Japan but symbol of Asia and the world.
The students is the most important factor, I believe so. At the graduation ceremony of Vietnam Japan University, a graduate student said: “Let’s become a bouquet of flowers to shine globally.” I do not know that the student was here in the ceremony. I am very moved to hear your statement. I hope 96 students of the 3rd intake will become the people who contribute for the success of Vietnam-Japan University in the future.
I hope you will chase our ideas all the time studying here and ever after graduating. I want you to have a great time studying in the next two years and hope that you will work hard, focus and open up a new future, become a global human to grow brilliantly.
The teachers will help you at their much efforts.
As a Special Adviser to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance and a member of the school board, congratulations to all of you.”
