Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) announces the guiding contents for applicants to prepare for their Admission examination into 6 Master’s Programs at VJU Intake 2017 as follows:
I. Master’s Program in Nanotechnology (MNT)
A) Knowledge Contents
1. Maths
– Knowledge requirements: First order linear differential equation , second order linear differential equation; Linear Algebra: Matrix, determinant, eigenvectors and eigenvalue of matrix.
– Reference documents: Jim Hefferon, Linear algebra, Orthogonal Publishing L3C; 2015 edition, 2015.
James Steward, Calculus: Early Transcendentals, Cengage Learning 7th edition, 2010.
2. Applicants can choose one of 3 options below:
2.1. Physics
– Knowledge requirements: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity and Magnetism.
– Reference document: David Halliday, Robert Resnick and Jearl Walker, Fundametals Physics, Wiley 10th edition, 2013.
2.2. Chemistry
– Knowledge requirements: Atomic Structure, Chemical Thermodynamics, Electrochemistry, Dynamics Chemistry.
– Reference document: Peter Atkins, Loretta Jones, Leroy Laverman, Chemical Principles – The quest for insight, W.H. Freeman 6th edition, 2012.
2.3. Biology
– Knowledge requirements: Cell Biology.
– Reference document: Bruce Alberts, Dennis Bray, Karen Hopkin, Alexander Johnson, Julian Lewis, Martin Raff, Keith Roberts, Peter Walter. Essential Cell Biology, 4th edition, Garland Publishing, 2013.
B) Written test and oral examination
– Candidates do the written test on Maths in 60 minutes.
– Candidates are interviewed by the Interview Committee in 1 out of 3 directions below: Physics (particularly in the scope of Nano Physics), Chemistry (particularly in the scope of Nano Chemistry), Biology (particularly in the scope of Nano Biotechnology).
II. Master’s Program in Public Policy (MPP)
A) Knowledge contents
– Basic and professional knowledge related to major (specification) that applicants obtained at undergraduate level.
B) Interview methods
– Explain the purpose and motivation of applicants when applying for this Master’s Program.
– Present expected knowledge, and skills when completing the course, and applicants’ future work.
– Applicants are interviewed by Interview Committee based on the scope of knowledge mentioned in item A.
III. Master’s Program in Area Studies (MAS)
A) Knowledge contents
Regard to applicants of Master’s Program in Area Studies (Japanese Studies):
– Fundamental and professional knowledge related to Japanese Studies.
Regard to applicants of Master’s Program in Area Studies (Vietnamese Studies)
– Fundamental and professional knowledge related to Vietnamese Studies.
B) Interview methods
– Applicants are interviewed by Interview Committee based on the scope of knowledge mentioned in item A.
IV. Master’s Progam in Infrastructure Engineering (MIE)
A) Knowledge contents
– Applicants of MIE should clearly mention specific fields among 7 ones below in Application form:
- Construstion Engineering;
- Urban and Transportation Planning.
- Advanced Material Engineering;
- Geo-technical Engineering;
- Structure Engineering;
- Project and Management;
- Transportation Engineering;
– Prepare fundamental and professional knowledge related to registered field.
B) Interview methods
– Applicants are interviewed based on submitted documents.
V. Master’s Program in Environmental Engineering (MEE)
A) Knowledge contents
– Fundamental and professional knowledge of the major that applicants obtained at undergraduate level.
– Research Plan at graduate level.
– Reason and motivation to apply for studying MEE.
B) Interview methods
– Applicants are interviewed by Interview Committee based on the scope of knowledge mentioned in item A.
VI. Master’s Program in Business Administration (MBA)
A) Knowledge contents
– Scope of knowledge relates to the topic of final thesis at undergraduate level, as well as Research plan when pursuing MBA.
– Knowledge relates to Business Administration.
B) Assessment methods
– Applicants are requested to write essay in 30’ to assess their essay writing skills in English and data analysis skills.
– Applicants are interviewed by the Committee on the following contents: topic of their final thesis at University, research plan, and other questions related their essays.
