3. Abstract
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges threatening the world. Effective and successful implementation of net-zero emission pledge by 2050 is crucial and of the highest priorities in all countries. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report showed that in 2019, 34% of the total greenhouse gas emission (GHG) came from the energy sector. Therefore, sustainable energy development plays an essential role for not only energy security but also net-zero emission. In the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, Vietnam pledged to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The recent approval Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated 15 May 2023 by the Vietnam Prime Minister on the National Electricity Development Planning of 2021–2030 and vision for 2050 demonstrates Vietnam strategy and actions to fulfil net-zero emission commitment. Following this event, VNU Vietnam Japan University organize a seminar to introduce Sustainable Energy Development in Vietnam and to create a forum among researchers/scholars, experts, policymakers, and students on energy issues. Two distinguished speakers: Dr. Ta Dinh Thi – Vice Chairman of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee of the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam and Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Standing member of the Executive Committee of Vietnam Energy Association will keep us updated about the perspectives on energy development in Vietnam under climate change and other global crises. In addition, the seminar will provide information on job opportunities on sustainable energy management for potential employees.
