On December 4, 2020, Vietnam Japan University held a conference to review pilot training period of 5 Master programs. This was to evaluate, analyze, recognize the efforts and effectiveness of training in the past 4 years; propose appropriate solutions or adjustments and meet social needs. This task aimed not only to enhance VJU’s reputation, but more importantly stick to VJU’s commitment of a Japan-standard training quality in which capable people with good knowledge and skills will join the workforce after graduation.
Prof.Furuta Motoo gave an opening speech and moderated the Conference
On behalf of Rector Board, Dr.Nguyen Hoang Oanh, Vice Rector reported an assessment performed by VJU after 4 years of training. A remarkable achievement that VJU has done is to take advantage of supported resources to develop modern teaching and learning environment for students. Formally, master’s programs have been set up according to format by well-known partner universities in Japan with adjustments to fit Viet Nam training circumstances and learners. With relatively high entry requirements, the number of students studying at the University is not high. During the courses, learners are offered courses by Vietnamese and Japanese lecturers, and a number of domestic fieldtrips/ internships in Japan. In some programs such as MEE, students have opportunities to work on projects with their lecturers, become co-author on international publications with the lecturers and join in national and international conferences. This is a good drive for students because they can be ready for work with a good CV or further study after graduation with good perspectives. In addition, scholarship fund to support excellent students and those who make good endeavor in their study has been so far stable. Until now, 3 intakes have been graduated.
Participants from businesses, Institute of Quality Assurance, and training experts have make considerate comments and contributions.
Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy, VNU Director of the Institute of Quality Assurance said that besides meeting quality assurance standards, VJU needs to develop a stable and strong teaching staff for long term plan
Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy, VNU Director of the Institute of Quality Assurance said that VJU’s pilot master’s programs are a good model to go further. This assessment is to be done on time in accordance with educational quality principle. According to the plan, next year VJU will be entitled to apply quality assurance on Public Policy and Environmental Engineering under AUN standards. Some other comments by Dr. Huy are (1) To develop the outcome for the training program in a feasible and appropriate way (in accordance with VNU, MOET’s standards…); (2) To build a network of employers and set regular seminars and conferences with them, generate a close link between training and business, develop training based on business’s needs; (3) Connect and make use of VNU resources and facilities for students in learning and studying; (4) Develop and maintain good long-term training staff at VJU as a strategic plan.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Duan – a representative from businesses shared his view on VJU training scale
A voice from businesses, Mr. Nguyen Cong Duan said that Vietnamese businesses now need quality human resources. He suggested VJU to broaden the training model proven that the quality is assured. VJU’s efforts and effectiveness in training can only be proved when graduates join the workforce with confidence and have good prospects in their workplace.
Prof. Dr. Thai Thi Yen Huong – Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Academy is one of the important members involved in the development and performance of MAS in the pilot period. She commented that the current trend of Vietnamese learners studying master courses is changing. In this situation, VJU needs to be adaptive soon to meet social needs. In the past, learners tended to apply for master courses right after graduation from their universities, but now they have to go to work and study at the same time. They tend to find a real quality training that meets their future development and tailors to their time frame. VJU is suggested to put those social needs in consideration to develop suitable training programs or make necessary adjustments to the current ones.
Prof. Dr. Thai Thi Yen Huong said VJU needs to tailor its programs to meet current social demand
