VIETNAM JAPAN UNIVERSITY PROMOTES COOPERATION BETWEEN UNIVERSITIES AND ENTERPRISES
Within the framework of the project to build a set of indicators for sustainable development for small and medium-sized enterprises between the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VINASMEs) and VNU Vietnam Japan University, on September 24, 2021, the representatives of VNU Vietnam Japan University had a meeting with representatives of two enterprises, TAME Group and HBT Precision Mechanics Joint Stock Company, to conduct consultations in the development of the set of indicators.
Participating in the meeting, on behalf of VNU Vietnam Japan University, there was the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu – Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Jun Nakajma – Director of VJU Institute of Sustainability Science (ISS), Dr. Naoki Yoshikawa – Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, College of Science and Engineering, Ritsumeikan University, experts of ISS and the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (FISS). On behalf of enterprises, Mr. Tran Van Tuan – General Director of TA Holdings, and Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung – Deputy Director of HBT Vietnam Precision Mechanics Co., Ltd.
In the opening session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu thanked the two enterprises for accepting the invitation to participate in the interview and shared the importance of the cooperation between the University and the enterprises to implement the sustainable development goals of Vietnam. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu said, “SMEs are always considered the heart of the national economy. Vietnam’s business environment has undergone fundamental changes in recent years, creating favorable conditions for SMEs to develop. However, in order to ensure the goal of economic growth but still harmonize with the interests of society and protect the environment, it is necessary to have the cooperation of all parties, including the Government, schools, and businesses, to bring the goal of sustainable development closer to SMEs”. Besides, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu introduced a contest related to sustainable development organized by VINASME, with the direct professional consulting by VNU Vietnam Japan University. Therefore, the meeting between the University representatives and two businesses has great significance in building the Sustainable Development Indicators for SMEs and the upcoming contest.

TA Holdings and HBT Vietnam Precision Mechanics Co., Ltd are two medium-sized enterprises with 100% Vietnamese investment capital. In particular, TA Holdings is a multi-industry corporation in manufacturing and retailing health care products and services to improve the quality of life of Vietnamese people with three brands: TAME, TAHOMES, and TASA. Meanwhile, HBT Vietnam Precision Mechanic Co., Ltd has a longstanding reputation in automation and precision mechanics, with essential products such as machine building, molds, and mounting components.

At the meeting, two consultation sessions were held between experts from Vietnam Japan University and representatives of each enterprise. Different experts consult each content of the Indicator to ensure the appropriateness between expertise and consultation content. Experts collect opinions on the contents of the indicators in order to make some adjustments for the official set of indicators. The set of indicators was inherited from Japan’s ECOACTION-21 Indicator to measure the level of sustainable development of Japanese enterprises and to promote sustainable development in the country. Interspersed in the consultation sessions were sharing from Japanese experts about sustainable development trends and effective corporate governance models to meet the sustainable development trend at enterprises in Japan. The working session took place in a spirit of urgency and seriousness, ensuring that the contents were fully implemented and did not affect the precious time of businesses.

At the end of the consultation session, Professor Jun Nakajima, on behalf of experts and researchers from VNU Vietnam Japan University, once again thanked the representatives of the two businesses and expressed his happiness that Vietnamese businesses had specific orientations toward sustainable business development. Hopefully, in the future, the cooperation model between universities and businesses will continue to be promoted and become increasingly effective to bring more benefits to businesses and the sustainable development of the country.
