In mid December, 2020, MPP students of the 4th and their lecturers had made a field trip to Da Nang city. In the fieldtrip, students had an opportunity to listen to local institutes and organizations report and discussion public policies and how those policies are supporting business, high-tech companies and industrial zones in the city. In details, students did meet representatives from Da Nang Enterprises Incubator (DNES), Operation building of Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial zones and the Da Nang Reserach Institues for Socio-Economics Development.

Activities at Da Nang Enterprises Incubator (DNES)

The representative of Danang Business Incubator (DNES) enthusiastically supported the internship team to visit their facilities and introduced the business support activities being carried out at the Incubator. DNES is working on activities to support early stage and local startup projects. DNES accompanies and cooperates with many other institutions to raise funds and organize events for startups. In addition to calling for private investment, DNES is also receiving great support from the local government. Through the discussion, the students gained practical knowledge about the connection between local government and the private sector in supporting businesses.

Activities at Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Zones

On the afternoon of December 15, 2020, the Management Board of Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Zones welcome MPP’s lecturers and students to participate in a seminar and discussion on operations system, current status and difficulties in the management and development of Da Nang Hi-Tech Park. Mr. Vo Van Chi, representative of the Management Board of Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Zones, had provide a very informative discussion about the actual operation and current situation in Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and the inadequacies of existing legal framework. He also frankly shared on breakthroughs and innovative proposals and policy implication in removing legal barriers and better coordination among hi-tech zones across the country.

Activities at Da Nang Research Institutes for Socio-Economics Development

Students also visited and worked at the Da Nang Research Institutes for Socio-Economics Development. Mr. Pham Dinh Duc – Deputy Director of the institute shared about the research directions and recent research projects carried out at the institutes.

The information and observations obtained from this fieldtrip draw a picture in reality of how policies work in practice, especially to support enterprises and to develop science and technology in Da Nang city. Students are about to get to know more about the advisory role of research institutes in the development of local government policy.
