On December 4, 2020, MAS students had a field trip in Hai Duong province, which is a good place to get to know about traditional education, academics and Confucian culture with famous figures such as Chu Van An, Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Thi Due. The local now still worships those ones. In the trip, students have a chance to meet and talk with local cultural staff about the famous places in the province; get to know more about the scholarly culture of the Eastern cultural sub-region (which belongs to Northern Delta culture area).
Places that students have been include Chu Van An temple, Nguyen Thi Due temple (The first and only female temple in feudal history), Nguyen Trai Temple, Cao Temple (Worship 5 generals of the Vuong family which had great contribution to the King Le Dai Hanh in the war against the Tong invasion in 981), Tran family altar (a family that has a scholarly tradition), Mao Dien Temple of Literature.
At each site, students learnt about the process in which village community and the state organized the worship of famous figures in the past and after the Doi Moi, even stories about their contributions and lives. The assignment for students after the fieldtrip is to sum up their knowledge into a report about educational tradition and Confucian culture in the East of Viet Nam; their evaluation and feelings about how such culture values should be inherited and developed in contemporary society.
