International Conference on Green Technologies for Sustainable Water 2017 was jointly organized by Vietnam Japan University – Vietnam National University, Hanoi and University of Technology Sydney (Australia), University of Wollongong (Australia), Tianjin Polytechnic University (China) and University of Science -Vietnam National University, Hanoi from 13th – 16th October 2017, at Pan Pacific Hotel, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.

The conference was participated by  more than 100  experts, scientists and researchers from many countries in the world such as France, United States, Australia, India, Taiwan, etc. Among the participants were some internationally recognized experts  on green technologies for water treatment, namely Prof. Dr.  Roger Benaim (French Institute of Fluid Separation and Filtering), Prof. Dr. Ramaraj Boopathy (Nicholls State University, United States); Prof. Dr. Jega Jegatheesan (RMIT University, Australia), Prof. Dr. Yamamoto Kazuo (University of Tokyo, Japan), Prof. Dr. Jun Nakajima (Vietnam Japan University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Prof. Dr. Duujong Lee (National Taiwan University, China), Prof. Dr. Ashok Pandey (Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing, India) and Prof.  Dr. Xiaochang C. Wang (Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, China).

The opening ceremony was held in the morning of October 14, 2017 with the presence of Prof.  Furuta Motoo – Rector of Vietnam Japan University and representatives of the Conference Organization Board, including  Prof. Ngo Huu Hao (University of Technology, Sydney); Prof. Nghiem Long (University of Wollongong); Prof. Jianxin Lin (Tianjin Polytechnic University); Prof.  Jun Nakajima (Vietnam Japan University) as well as other scientists, researchers, experts and enterprises in the field of environment and water technologies.

Prof. Furuta Motoo emphasized  on the importance of the International Conference on Green Technologies for Sustainable Water 2017, “Water demand has exceeded its supplies as a consequence of population boom, which results in the depletion of water resources on the world, particularly in countries which are severely iimpacted by climate change like Vietnam.  The development of environmentally friendly technologies for efficiently use and reuse of water resources is imperative for the sustainable management and use of this natural resource. “

Prof. Furuta Motoo also sent his sincere thank to the scientists, organizers and donors for their long-standing efforts and contributions to the conference.

During the three days of the conference, experts and scientists were introducing new ideas, and updating advanced technologies and sciences in fields of water supply, water treatment, water reuse, resource restoration from wastewater, water resource management, water treatment by nano technology, etc. with 103 presentations and 30 posters. The highlights among those reports are from the keynote speakers on oil production from seawater and wastewater using microalga Chlorococcum sp.  RAP-13; integrated water recycling and reclamation systems for Asian countries; anaerobic digestion technology for food waste to reclaim wastewater; biological treatment of wastewater from shrimp ponds by SBR technique; application of nanomaterials in water supply and wastewater treatment, etc.

The conference has featured a major in membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology that addresses the application potentials of this technology in the treatment of wastewater and water supply in the world and in Vietnam.

The conference presentations and activities had received active participation from the scientists, researchers and experts.  The conference awarded prizes for most outstanding presentations and young scientists.  The organizers hope the conference would motivate young research scientists to conduct further researches in  water environment.
