September, 23rd 2024, a research team from the Faculty of Education, Kyushu University visit Vietnam Japan University (VJU).
This visit is part of the “Overseas Fieldwork” course, which aims to nurture sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of historical and social contexts through local visits to Vietnam, thereby training experts in Asian education (teachers, education administrators, researchers). Besides Vietnam-Japan University, the students also plan to visit the Japanese International School, JICA Vietnam Office, Japan Foundation Vietnam Japan Cultural Exchange Center, SCUTI, and Tokyo Metro.
The students participating in the fieldwork are interested in intercultural understanding and comparing educational systems. They will observe the current situation on-site, comparing it with the knowledge gained from literature and papers during their preliminary research. Specifically, they are interested in how the differences in culture and environment between Japan and Vietnam impact the curriculum at Vietnam-Japan University, which incorporates Japanese-style education. Additionally, they wish to study the unique aspects and challenges of Vietnam-Japan University in comparison to other higher education institutions in Vietnam, and how the university influences the overall education in Vietnam. Their ultimate findings will be compiled into a report and share with other students at Kyushu University in the form of a presentation
