Meet Professor Hironori Kato, Co-director of the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering (MCE), from the University of Tokyo, currently teaching MCE at Vietnam Japan University.
A Master’s program in Civil Engineering (MCE) is a field that attracts many young people to study and is currently in high demand for human resources. Not only do MCE students meet the human resource needs of a developing country like Vietnam, but they also have the opportunity to challenge themselves and join Japanese businesses.
At Vietnam Japan University, MCE was built based on grasping the actual needs of Vietnam and inherited the training program of the University of Tokyo, Japan, to equip students with knowledge and skills in advanced technology in design, construction, operation management, and quality assurance of infrastructure projects.
To better understand the program and the competitive advantages of students after graduation, listen to the sharing from Prof. Hironori Kato – Co-director of the Master of Civil Engineering program, from the University of Tokyo.

Here is the sharing of Prof. Hironori Kato at VJU:
MCE/ECE program offers practical education highlighting the Japanese unique experiences. Japan’s infrastructure has significantly contributed to the rapid economic growth while it has also produced negative effects such as pollution and urban-rural economic disparity; and recently infrastructure maintenance and management have been major concerns under rapid ageing with lower birthrate. Such findings should be so valuable for Vietnamese that they are provided directly from Japanese teaching staff in VJU. The program offers an opportunity to students to experience Japanese infrastructure, which promotes an essential understanding of infrastructure. We found many students who have completed internships have changed their views about infrastructure. MCE/ECE program invites students to be new type of civil engineers who will lead the next generation in infrastructure.
