On November 3, 2023, Vietnam Japan University (VNU-VJU) and VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU-USSH) will jointly organize the International Scientific Conference “Vietnam – Japan Relations: The Past – Present – Future” at Nguy Nhu Kon Tum Hall of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
On September 21, 1973, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and Japan signed a diplomatic document establishing official relations between the two countries. Since then, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has been increasingly strengthened and consolidated. Japan is currently Vietnam’s leading economic partner, the largest ODA donor, the second largest labour cooperation partner, the third largest investment and tourism partner, and the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam. The two nations have established a close collaboration in various critical domains, such as the enhancement of transportation infrastructure and the development of high-quality human resources. Vietnam and Japan are actively collaborating to strengthen their strategic partnership, aiming for deeper and more effective engagement.
Towards the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (1973-2023), and at the same time, to look back on research achievements and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the fields of social sciences and humanities, Vietnam Japan University (VNU-VJU) and VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU-USSH) will jointly organize the International Scientific Conference “Vietnam – Japan Relations: Past, present, Future”.

International Scientific Conference “Vietnam – Japan Relations: The Past – Present – Future”
The conference brought together dozens of leading scientists and historians from universities and research institutes in Japan and Vietnam, as well as a large number of young researchers, graduate students and graduate students from Japan and Vietnam who will exchange and share research results on the two countries’ diplomatic relations in history.
Through in-depth and elaborate research by domestic and foreign researchers, it will contribute to systematizing and updating documents and research results over the years by Vietnamese and Japanese scholars on the history of the two countries (Vietnamese research in Japan and Japanese research in Vietnam), thereby sharing and strengthening mutual understanding between the two peoples.
At the upcoming conference, esteemed scientists will propose novel research directions, methods and perspectives for the study of history in Vietnam and Japan. This will serve to advance the development of science and the education of history in both countries.
