Time: 10:30 AM – 11:35 AM, June 12, 2017
Venue: Room 415, Vietnam Japan University
Speakers: Prof. Masaaki Sugiyama (Visiting professor, Chairman of the Joint Research Council of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal and Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University)
The advantage of steel material used in the form of structural products in our lives is the ability to withstand tensile strength in a large range of 30 to 4,500 MPa thanks to the microstructure design. It has led to mass production and mass consumption amid industrial development in many countries. Given the necessity to save energy and reduce CO2 emission, high-strength steel products made from low carbon steel have become essential to make automotive parts, some types of tubes, pipes and other steel structural products. There is no other material in the world that exhibits the same characteristics and applicability as steel.
In the workshop, Prof. Masaaki Sugiyama will introduce the concept of material design in the field of advanced steel materials based on modern techniques, especially in the field of electron microscope. In the near future, material properties can be predicted by combining quantitative information at the Nano scale with physical simulation.
