On 18/02/2020, Vietnam Japan University – VNU Hanoi and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held an R/D Signing on Project for the enhancement of education, research and university management capacity (TC 2) at VJU.

The Signing was attended by the Board of Directors of Vietnam Japan University, Representatives from Viet Nam National University – Ha Noi, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Japan Embassy, other stakeholders and the media.
TC 2 is phase 2 of Project for the enhancement of education, research and university management capacity at VJU. Project implementation is expected from March 2020 to March 2025. With the goal of training high quality human resources at all three levels (under graduate, higher education and doctorate); To enhance the training, research and management capacity at Vietnam Japan University, TC2 project continues to support VJU with resources, techniques and technology transfer to develop into an international prestigious research university and towards self-sustainability.

TC 2 is tentative to implement the following activities:
– Develop and implement high quality training programs for university, master and PhD levels based on strengths of Japanese partner universities and Viet Nam needs: focusing on interdisciplinary social sciences, sustainable sciences, advanced technology and life sciences; build VJU in Hoa Lac and develop autonomy-oriented programs at the end of the project.
– Initial support for highly qualified scientists who are capable of mobilizing research funding, creating an independent research group after 2-3 years, developing new modules/ training program.
– Research, build and complete organizational structure and management system of a research university towards high autonomy and based on experience of Japanese research universities; Develop partnership with Japanese universities and businesses.
– Supporting expenses to organize training and research activities in localities. Support for procurement of practical equipment for training programs and research equipment for a number of key research directions such as sustainable science and support for operating facilities in Ha Noi according to Japanese standards.

Dr. Furuta Motoo said that “Vietnam-Japan University will make the best use of Japan’s expertise, technology and Viet Nam’s applied scientific knowledge in training and research, in order to provide skilled, experienced and high-quality scientists, leaders and administrators for Viet Nam, Japan and the region.”
After 5 years of TC1 project implementation, Vietnam Japan University is currently offering 08 Master’s Degrees in:

– Climate Change and Development
– Enviromental Engineering
– Nanotechnology
– Public Policy
– Global Leadership
From 2020, Vietnam Japan University will open a high-quality Bachelor program in Japanese Studies.
