On November 14, the first seminar from the Institue of Institute of Sustainability Science (ISS), VNU Vietnam - Japan University (VJU) will be taken place at VJU Campus, lectured by Prof. Kano Mitsunobu, Science and Technology Co-advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Professor and Vice Director at Okayama University. 

Introduction of the lecture:

"Amid ongoing globalization and growing influence and interdependence among countries across the world, the role of science, technology and innovation (STI) has become more important than ever to solve the Global Issues including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Under these circumstances, in 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has appointed a Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, who serve as a bridge between science and diplomacy, and has been promoting science and technology diplomacy. In this lecture, I will introduce Japan's efforts on science and technology diplomacy and Japan's trend of STI in the life science field based on the progress of globalization. In the basic research in life science, Japan has been recording remarkable achievements and making significant contributions to the world. Therefore, I would like to explain the latest basic research results and the STI policies that support them from familiar examples.", shared by Prof. Kano Mitsunobu.

Short bio of invited speaker:

Prof. KANO Mitsunobu is science and technology co-advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs from April 2019. Concurrently, he is Professor and a Vice Executive Director at Okayama University. 

He graduated from and started research activity in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tokyo, did his clinical residency in St. Luke's International Hospital in Tokyo. He started his professional career as a physician in internal medicine including gerontology. As the Professor at Okayama University, he is now undertaking research in basic medicine, medical engineering, and pharmaceutical sciences, by applying new technologies such as nanotechnology.

As the Vice Executive Director at Okayama University, he started the whole-institutional efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which was later awarded by the Japanese Government.
